The Very Best Calf Skin For Bookbinders.

calf skin leatherBookbinders Workshop (together with Franz Hoffmann Fine Leathers, Stuttgart, Germany) have developed the finest line of calfskin leathers ever.

These calfskins are suitable for restoration, conservation and fine binding.

They are majestic in their look, feel and quality. Hence the name "Cathedral Calf".

These skins are fully vegetable tanned and are soft to handle.

Pictured on the left is an example of the "antique ochre" shade.

Some book calf is dried on glass to impart what I feel is an unnatural smoothness, this calf is not dried on glass and has the natural surface of a quality calf skin.

We take considerable pleasure in offering what we consider to be the worlds finest leathers, and we are firm in our belief that we have no competition when it comes to the quality and price of the fine Franz Hoffmann leathers. They are made according to strict German standards and have no equal, they are quite simply the best.

The leather takes blind tooling and tooling in gold perfectly.

To give you a rough idea of the savings possible by purchasing this leather, an average sized grade 1 calf skin from Talas would cost £203.00. From Hewits it would cost £210.00. From Eden Workshops it would cost only £146.50. SAVING YOU BETWEEN £56.50 & £63.50 A SKIN!

Should you think of saving money by purchasing second grade skins, you will find that BBWS grade 1 calf is STILL CHEAPER than second grade skins from Hewits or Talas. For example an average sized skin of grade 2 calf from Talas would cost £181.10. The same size grade 1 skin from BBWS would cost £146.50, SAVING YOU £34.60 A SKIN!

Please note. Franz Hoffman do not supply blemished leathers, they only supply grade 1 skins.

There are at present 6 colours on offer, though more will be added later in the year. While we have tried to give a realistic rendition of the colour of these leathers some variation may occur from the pictures.
