Vol.VII How To Make Parchment Paper & Imitation Vellum
Parchment paper and imitation vellum have been made by generations of bookbinders who sought something that looked and handled like old parchment.
This was achieved by painting suitable papers with varnish or lacquer.
I was a professional binder for most of my adult life and I have used these simple methods to produce imitation vellum and parchment papers on many occasions.
By using a readily available paper that comes in two weights, and the varnish recipe I give, you can make lightweight parchment papers that are opaque....

Or by using the heavier paper you can make an imitation vellum which displays several of the characteristics of real vellum, this material is also useful as a covering material in bookbinding.
